Telcos’ Future 5G Initiatives

Some of the future initiatives by the leading telecommunication companies are as follows:

9 August 2022: Education, Technology

Kajeet and Samsung Electronics America partner with each other to strengthen 5G connectivity and expand coverage in the education and other sectors of the USA

  • Kajeet, a provider of secure, reliable, and controlled wireless connections joins hands with Samsung Electronics America, Inc., becoming an authorized distributor of Samsung’s private RAN solutions in the United States.
  • Under the collaboration, Kajeet’s Smart Private 5G™ Platform will be deployed with Samsung’s Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) solutions, with the first area of focus as the Education sector
  • The partnership will also work towards the enhancement of broadband connectivity and coverage to power smart cities, school campuses, utility grids, factories, etc.

02 August 2022: Industrial

STL plans to launch a new portfolio of solutions in India to increase its capacities in 5G-suited optical products

  • Sterlite Technologies Ltd. (STL), an integrator of digital networks providing all-in 5G solutions, launches a full-scale suite of optical connectivity solutions for India’s 5G roll-out, after waiting and preparing for several years
  • In light of India’s 5G connectivity readiness, the company launches a new portfolio of solutions to fulfil the growing demand for optical products that could make 5G deployment efficient in the country
  • The portfolio of solutions includes a range of optical fibre and cables and interconnect solutions and is expected to expand its production in 2023-2024

27 July 2022: Marine 

JET Engineering System Solutions deploys a floating 5G base station off the UK coast of Dorset to expand the 5G network off-shore and provide high-bandwidth and better speed delivery

  • JET Engineering System Solutions, a UK-based company providing 5G mesh communications in the marine environment, successfully installs a buoy named JET-4 Babel, a floating 5G base station, off the UK coast of Dorset
  • The floating device exhibits connectivity by developing a 5G connection between JET-4 Babel and JET-3 Arial, which is a buoyant underwater camera, deployed to get real-time live streaming
  • The new 5G base station will transmit coverage for devices to connect to and from the shore where a 5G signal can be accessed, and will also provide a platform for data collection and live streaming to users elsewhere

26 July 2022: Sports

ExteNet Systems announces the installation of the latest private 5G networks across the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) for better speed at the premier racetrack 

  • ExteNet Systems, a US-based converged communications infrastructure and fibre network services provider, announces the deployment of new 5G cellular and Private Wireless Network infrastructure at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA), a Grade 1 FIA-specification motor racing track and facilities based in Texas
  • ExteNet plans to install the latest 5G wireless technology and relative infrastructure to improve coverage and capacity at the field
  • The project aims to provide fast and reliable communications across the venue through strategically placed nodes and antennas for networks that are private, secure, and separate from the public mobile and WiFi networks

25 July 2022: Semiconductor

American semiconductor designer Lattice launches a new ORAN solution for advanced control data security and adaptable fronthaul synchronization to enhance 5G operations

  • Lattice Semiconductor Corporation, an American semiconductor company specializing in the design and manufacturing of low-power, field-programmable gate arrays, expands its portfolio of solutions by launching a new Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) solution stack
  • The new product is part of the company’s broad portfolio of application-specific, low-power field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA)-based solutions, made for people using 5G who aim to secure data, elevate network function, and attain precise synchronization in services
  • The solution is expected to offer up to 70% less power and up to 100x more prevention of soft errors than other FPGAs of a similar class

19 July 2022: Technology

Inseego launches a novel 5G Cloud WAN Solution for making digital transformation effective, efficient, and affordable for all kinds of enterprises

  • Inseego Corp., a 5G edge cloud solutions provider, introduces a 5G Cloud WAN Solution to Enterprises, named Inseego 5G SD EDGE™
  • The newly launched solution is known to be the industry’s first 5G cloud networking solution that delivers networking and security through a 5G network fabric and enables the industry’s first zero trust network access (ZTNA) solution
  • The subscription-based and globally available Inseego 5G SD EDGE cloud also enables the eradication of complicated and pricey, on-premise custom legacy hardware solutions, and is currently in trials with Fortune 500 enterprise customers in the market

18 July 2022: Education, Human Resources

Ericsson partners with a university in Thailand, KMUTT, to provide 5G education to develop a 5G ready workforce as well as boost the economy of Thailand

  • Ericsson, a Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company, and King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), based in Thailand, partner with each other to promote the participation of Thai students in building 5G ICT skills
  • The telecom operator will provide Thai students with access to its online education initiative, ‘Ericsson Educate’, supporting their ongoing technical studies along with enhancing their ICT skills and increasing the chances of jobs
  • The collaboration between KMUTT and Ericsson is also expected to bring Thailand closer to Industry 4.0 while developing a 5G ready workforce in the country

17 July 2022: Air Force, Defense

Nokia extends partnership with US Air Force for management and enhancement of 5G network and radar interference at one of its Air Force Bases 

  • Nokia Corporation, the Finland-based multinational telecom, IT, and consumer electronics company, announces the extension of the partnership with US Air Force Base, the Hill Air Force Base in Utah, and the National Spectrum Consortium to support the enhancement of 5G connectivity
  • The partnership is focused on controlling the behaviour of the 5G system in real-time when the radar is present so that the radar and 5G network could coexist in a shared spectrum
  • The project is part of a broader plan by the OUSD(R&E) to create its first instalment of 5G wireless testbeds where the Hill Air Force Base uses Nokia’s O-RAN solutions for the testbed and Phase 1 of the project
