Client Situation
A major wholesale power trader and merchant plant developer had access to a published database indicating the construction and estimated commercial operation status of all announced merchant projects. In order to support trading decisions and to support its own development plans, this client wanted a better, more up-to-date, and detailed status for particular plants in defined NERC regions.

Fuld & Company Approach
To address this need, Fuld & Company developed an effective, fast track methodology for triangulating on each plant's status, making use of state and local regulators and plant construction project staff.

Benefits and Implications
This approach provided not only a "reality check," but also far greater insight as to the real status of each project enabling critical development and investment decisions by our client. For more information please contactMark Ferri at mferri@fuld.comor 617 492 5900.

Client situation
Our client for this project, a large regional gas and electric utility company, wanted to understand whether a major industry energy marketer was deriving any competitive advantage from its human resources practices. It also wanted to understand how it could attract and retain talent in the same manner as this very effective competitor

Fuld & Company Approach
To address this question, Fuld & Company interviewed former HR staff of the target company, major business schools where the target had recruited, professional search firms serving the target, and the target company's HR managers. Our research identified specific aspects of the target's recruiting strategy, as well as the compensation plan and training programs for two key business units; energy marketing and retail energy services and underscored the dramatic differences in the staffing of these two business units.

Benefits and Implications
With a better understanding of how this competitor obtains the talent it considers to be vital to its business strategy, our client saw the differences between the target's and its own human resource practices and began to define new, more competitive practices to better retain and grow its own professional staff.
