Project Experience
Profiling New Entrants in the Newly Deregulated Spanish Telecommunications
Market
Client Situation
The Spanish telecommunications market was deregulated as of December 1,
1998. This opening had created a flurry of activity among US and European
telecommunications to pursue licenses in the Spanish market with alliances,
subsidiaries or direct operations. Our client, one of the new entrants
in Spain, needed profiles of the key competitors that outlined the material
information about each competitor.
Fuld Approach
Fuld & Company reviewed all the secondary material available on the
Spanish telecommunications market and the new entrants. We then interviewed
knowledgeable sources in the US, Spain and headquarters locations for
these companies, many of whom were subsidiaries of incumbent telecommunications
companies in other European countries.
Benefits and Implications
In addition to the baseline profiles which quickly brought the employees
of this new organization up to speed, Fuld & Company prepared a strategy
analysis of each competitor in the context of the new market dynamics
so the client can position its services and messages most effectively.
