Project Experience
Researching Innovative Human Resources Practices at Industry Leaders
Client Situation
A 100 year old telecommunications company realized that it could not compete
in technology-intensive, fast-growing communications opportunities with
its current workforce. The client realized that it could not just hire
people with knowledge of the latest technology, it had to revamp its whole
human resources philosophy.
Fuld Approach
The company commissioned Fuld & Company to research how four successful
technology firms attracted and retained employees with desirable skills.
The issues included how the companies targeted potential employees, benefits
plans, empowerment philosophies, career and skills development, reward
mechanisms, and corporate culture. Our client also asked if this competitor
targeted its employees for recruiting, and if successful, were these employees
debriefed by the competitor.
Benefits and Implications
In some cases, Fuld & Company found that the policies differed greatly
from the actual practices within the target organizations. However, in
general, the targets were empowered their employees in new and innovative
ways. With this information, Fuld & Company could develop the strengths
and weaknesses of each competitor's HR strategy for our client and indicate
the potential best practices to be adopted by our client. For more information
