Assessing Emerging New Rivals in Optical Networking
Client Situation
Our client, a producer of networking components, sought to understand
the potential threat posed by emerging optical networking companies. The
booming optical networking arena had attracted vast amounts of venture
capital funding, enabling organizations to develop quickly into serious
competitors.
Fuld Approach
Fuld & Company developed a list of emerging competitors from secondary
sources and knowledgeable third parties. We then developed a profile of
each target with key data on technology, management and funding. This
data was entered into a spreadsheet to allow the client to analyze the
marketplace from different aspects.
Benefits and Implications
This overview enabled our client to decide which firms warranted further
investigation. Fuld & Company then trained the client's staff on our
research methodology on this project to enable them to continue to monitor
