Development of Competitive Framework for Industry Information Sharing
Tool
Client Situation
A major consumer products company was in process of developing a web-based
management tool for the industry, but acknowledged that it lacked an understanding
of the competitive environment for this type of initiative.
Fuld Approach
Starting with leads from the primary research with potential customers
and an online database search, we launched into an Internet search. We
looked for companies that offered one or more of the features included
in our client's concept and concluded there were three key types of competitors:
internal company management systems, ASPs and industry-specific web sites.
We identified examples of companies within each of these categories of
competitors.
Benefits and Implication
Based on our research effort, we concluded that there does not appear
to be one company that offers all of the features in our client's concept,
but there are numerous companies that offer one or more of the features.
We identified several companies that appear to more closely match our
client's concept than others. Ultimately, we provided our client with
a competitive framework as a starting point for more in-depth competitive
